Born in 1977 in Fullerton, CA to Ken and Colleen Box he grew up in the Orange County city of La Palma. Growing up in a house built by the hands of his father and grandfather David started early musical study on the piano. Later his study of percussion led to his study of the saxophone starting in the 4th grade. He enjoyed weekly ventures to Anaheim for community jazz and wind ensemble meetings with other young artists. His experiences in high school added to his passion for performance and composition while studying music at Valley View High School under the guidance of Trent Newton (Band) and Bob Staling (Choir). It was Bob who first introduced David to the music of Alexandre Glazounov and his concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra. At this time his studies with local saxophone professor Charlie Richards began and he was introduced to the French school of saxophone playing. After high school David enrolled at Riverside Community College to continue his studies with Mr. Richard. During this time he completed his Associate of Arts degree writing papers on Beethoven, studying MIDI, and gaining experience on his doubles of flute and clarinet. Upon completion of his A.A. degree David was given the opportunity to continue his studies at The University of Texas at Austin under Jerry Junkin and Harvey Pittel. Having produced a strong love for wind music with his studies with Roger Rickson (Fortissimo: The life of Fredrick Fennel) this was a wonderful pair. This also coincided with his winning of the Riverside Concerto Competition which paired him with a wonderful orchestra to perform
his first performance of the Glazounov Concerto for Alto Saxophone and String Orchestra. While at The University of Texas at Austin he recieved the Carl and Agnes Stockard Memorial Scholarship (2000), Elizabeth McGoldrick Suringer Endowed
Scholarship (1999), and the Effie Potts Sibley Endowed Scholarship (1998). Thanks to the support of these scholarships from donors to The University of Texas at Austin Mr. Box completed his masters and returned to California where he took
a position at La Sierra University as Professor of Saxophone and Director of Jazz Studies while also teaching as an Adjunct Professor at Riverside Community College. While teaching in the Los Angeles area Mr. Box pursued performance and
compostion opportunities leading him into many collaborative projects in the film and TV industry. His score to the 2005 Indie Film "The Devil Wears Spurs" catapulted his career forward as he was honored as the only indie film composer to
make the January edition of Film Score Magazines "Hot Sheet". Ranked next to James Newton Howard (King Kong) and Michael Giachinno (The Incredibles) his modern score gained great respect among his fellow colleagues and film community.
His collaborative relationships built off of this film with director Charlton Thorp leading to another western that screened at the New York International Film Festival in December 2008 to rave revues. David says,"My love for period films was solidified
with my collaborative efforts on The Alamo in 2003. It was one of the most rewarding artistic experiences in my life. Now I have a driving passion for the genre."
After his seperation and divorce in 2007 David traveled the world playing in Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, England, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands, Venezuala, Mexico, Hawaii, Fiji, American Somoa, New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia,
Thailand, Vietnam, China, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Egypt, Greece, and all over the continental United States. After returning to the states from Europe David relocated to Austin, TX were he currently maintains a studio of private students, is working on
numerous commissions for band, orchestra, film and T.V. while continuing his performance schedule. In Nov. 2008 David recorded a new sound track to Reward, released a new album with Los Angeles blues artist Robert Linden (CBS/Paramount),
and has formed a new concert series at the Pflugerville Fine Arts Center.
In 2009 there will be a release of his first classical album featuring all new compositions for the saxophone and premieres of his vocal works set to the poetry of Robert Frost. If you wish to sponsor an event by purchasing ad space you may
